Some reasons that led to the Fit4P concept and platform ...

Reason 1: To provide ultra low cost training that is focussed on relevant workplace subjects

Course cost, course content, and course accessibility

Like others I have spent thousands of pounds self funding courses, only to realise that the content, whilst valuable for a higher education qualification, lacks focus on day-to-day workplace hazards, risks and control measures.  If I can provide those new to QHSSE with short, targeted training, on subject areas where they can make a difference, then I would have achieved my aim for Fit for Purpose (Fit4P).

H&S Advisor Training

As anyone who runs a consultancy knows, it is crucial to be able to provide new H&S Advisors with guidance and knowledge on subjects they will need sound knowledge on to undertake their role successfully.

A focus of Fit4P is to provide PCR Global's H&S Advisors with a platform on which they can undertake initial competence training and complete ongoing CPD activities. A friend asked why I wouldn't make this available to others as it would be a great annual training tool, and viola ... it made sense.

Some graduations along the way

Providing documentation to save you time

Developing documentation can eat up valuable time, so another aim is to provide management system policies, procedures and working documents that can be tailored to any organisation.

Reason 2: Because cancer wrecks lives

Dilys, my Mam who passed away in June 2022

A percentage of all sales from Fit for Purpose will be donated to the Macmillan Nurses.

  • There are around 375,000 new cancer cases in the UK every year, that's around 1,000 every day
  • In females in the UK, there are more than 182,000 new cancer cases every year
  • In males in the UK, there are around 193,000 new cancer cases every year
  • F### Cancer
I was with my Mam on the day she was diagnosed with lung cancer, and on the same day she told me she did not want any treatment. As small as she was, I have never seen so much strength and dignity from a person in the time leading up to her passing. As tough as old boots fair play

What does a Macmillan nurse do?

Macmillan nurses are specialists that work in different areas of cancer care and treatment.
They work in hospitals, hospices and in the community.  Macmillan nurses can help with information about your cancer diagnosis, treatment, and help manage side effects. They offer emotional and practical support.

Reason 3: To put my experiences to good use

I had no quals from school, but became obsessed with studying. Why?

In 2007 I developed symptoms of PTSD believed to be brought on after the vehicle in which I was a PPO (Personal Protection Officer) was ambushed and blown up in Baghdad, Iraq. This incident was the last of a number of similar attacks I was involved in, but the one in particular that led to noticeable changes in my behaviour.

Hyper-arousal
(hyper-focus / hyper-vigilance)

After moving from a personal protection role in Baghdad, to a Site Security Management role in Northern Iraq, I regularly struggled to sleep as my mind felt stuck on high-alert - I  was constantly scanning for threats. After seeking advice I made a conscious decision to direct the increased stimulation (repeatedly asking myself questions), which was something I could not control, into personal and professional development - something I could control.

Philomath
(a lover of studying and learning)

I channeled my hyper-vigilance into an obsession with operational decision making, and strived to understand the concepts of risk, risk assessment, risk management and leadership. Whilst many thought I was mad with a mobile phone full of recordings and a living room of six to eight white boards full of text, the motivation to become 'qualified' gave me a much needed sense of purpose.

Finally, Fit4P is a personal project

I am hoping that developing this website, the guidance in the Members Area, and of course the courses and documents it holds will keep me busy whilst also making a few bob for a wonderful charity.

Thanks for reading and considering doing one of the courses yourself, or indeed if you want to sign up some of your staff that would be great.

Thank you ...

I completed a brilliant course by Andrew Protheroe at PCR Global on implementing a health and safety policy well worth the money.
It was a very enjoyable course and I like the fact that it gave you the fundamentals for you to then further investigate.

Marcus Williams TechIOSH IEMA

I have done various courses at various lengths, with little to vast amounts of Information, however I have really enjoyed the two courses I have done recently that have been developed and delivered by PCR Global. I feel they are very useful bite size courses to learn from, whether new to the subject matter or looking to refresh knowledge. Thank you for your efforts in producing such easy to follow yet professional short courses, that are great for those with no knowledge of the subject or wish to refresh their understanding.. Great work Andrew and all at PCR Global!

Ian Shelley TechIOSH,

A very good short course that picks a part the three elements of a H&S policy and gives clear direction as to how this can shape and focus in on areas of the workplace for continued improvement.
